New Stories: New Futures was a free two-night event that took place Friday, August 20, and Saturday, 21, 2021 at Pioneer Tower at Will Rogers Memorial Center in the Cultural District. Arts Fort Worth, then known as the Arts Council of Fort Worth, and AURORA partnered to present New Stories: New Futures in conjunction with Fort Worth Public Art’s major installation on Pioneer Tower.
Taking place over two nights, this uniquely Fort Worth art event featured artworks projected onto Pioneer Tower, created by internationally renowned artists Refik Anadol and Quayola. These artworks explores memories of Fort Worth and the region’s natural beauty.
The Arts Council of Fort Worth and AURORA also presented a public exhibition, curated by Dr. Lauren Cross, featuring works by North Texas artists who work with new media art, Jessica Fuentes, Letitia Huckaby, Sedrick Huckaby, Angela Faz, Raul Rodriguez, Jin-Ya Huang, Ciara Bryant, Bernardo Vallarino, Jeff Gibbons, and Nick Bontrager. While the art projected on all four sides of Pioneer Tower is visible across the Cultural District and beyond, visitors spent time at the base of the Pioneer Tower to experience the installations up-close. Reservations were underwritten by Arts Fort Worth, then known as the Arts Council of Fort Worth, and offered to the public free of charge.
Leading up to the debut of the artwork, the artists of New Stories: New Futures spoke at the Kimbell Art Museum in two artist discussion panels. Watch the artist talks below.
