Krystal Jones was appointed director of the Department of Arts & Culture in June of 2022. She leads a team of 23 and oversees seven grant programs: The City of San Antonio’s Public Art Program, two city-owned galleries, The San Antonio Film Commission, The Local Music Spotlight program, and cultural initiatives including the Poet Laureate and Fiestas Patrias programs. Under her leadership, San Antonio has increased investment in public art, artists and film productions. Jones began her career at the City of San Antonio in January 2011. She has served in various roles for the Department, including the role of film and music commissioner.
