Ether explores human attempts to observe the sun through diagrams, etched glass, sculptures, stained glass, and sand. Glass serves as the intermediary between humanity and the unknown. Diagrams, human communication and learning tools, act as a representation of what is between text and object and are another attempt at human understanding. Around the 1650s, some European cathedrals acted as solar observatories and places of worship. Using these sites as a launching point for conceptual and artistic exploration, Rojas reimagines devices and architectural components as tools and devices that represent that which is known and unknown. Through digital fabrication, traditional methods, AI sketching, and intuitive processes Rojas creates a space that is meant to prompt introspection.
