Artist Talk with Burl Washington

Burl Washington's exhibition 'A Quest Into the WEST' features watercolor paintings from Washington's Black Cowboys and Western Heritage series of work. Washington chose the overlooked imagery of the African-American in history and began working on a series of paintings of the Buffalo Soldiers in 1976. His fascination with the history of these great men and women led to the development of the Black Cowboys, Women of the West, Black Jockeys series and many others which spurred conversation concerning the influence these great men and women played in this country's development.
